The owner, Yaron Wiesenbacher, of the Hard Pressed Cafè on Bree Street in Cape Town, opened up his restaurant to four homeless people to give them an unforgettable meal. Read more about his amazing deed here.

New Openings

Well done to SALSA Mexican Grill, who opened its 8th restaurant, in Rivonia Village Shopping Center.



JAN, also a wine

South African Michelin star Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen had a busy year and he is only getting started. JAN Special Cuvé Red and JAN Special Cuvé White are Jan’s own fruit-flavored wines. Hurry and get yours here as there were only 600 bottles produced.


Major events no Foodie want to miss in 2018

  • Convivium 2018 in Swartland in February! It is a foodie’s day in heaven. Chefs that are participating include Luke Dale-Roberts and Ryan Cole from The Test Kitchen, Ivor Jones from Chefs Warehouse at Beau Constantia, Michelle Theron from Pierneef à La Motte, Jess Shepherd from The Table at De Meye, Jason Lilley from Jason bakery, Chris Erasmus from Foliage, Michael Cooke from Camphors at Vergelegen. And this is only to name a few.
  • TEN years, TEN dishes at Greenhouse until end of January. This is to celebrate Chef Peter Tempelhoff’s ten year anniversary at the restaurant.
  • Flavours of the City at Montecasino in March! It is a food and lifestyle festival that celebrates Johannesburg.

Another interesting GIN thing

Last week we saw Black Gin and now this week there is a new hype around Gin-flavoured cheese (more here). We wonder how drunk you can get on just eating cheese?
