Bacon! Bacon everywhere!
If you are the kind of person that enjoys bacon then this is the place for you.
Bacon on Bree is situated at the end of Bree street in Cape Town. Bacon on Bree is a very cosy and small, kind of rustic street cafe that specialises in, you guessed it, bacon.
They have quite a selection of hot drinks to impress even the most critical of coffee drinkers, they understand that the cappuccino is out and the flat white is here to stay. They make a mean latte and for Pete’s sake, they even serve a cortado! Not a lot of places even know what that is. Cortado is Portuguese for the word cut, so basically it is half espresso half warm milk. Cut in half, get it? Good, you just got hit with some knowledge.
The exciting thing about their menu is that it isn’t your normal menu of toasted ham and cheese or three egg french omelette. You order a Hairy Biker or the Harvey Specter, the Frank Sinatra or even the Joey Tribbiani (can anyone guess what this is?). We were quite shocked to see that the very first thing on their menu is The Triple T, it was as if we were meant to review them.
We decided to try the Harvey Specter, a ciabatta with bacon (obviously), brie, tomato, and pesto. Absolutely amazing. Definitely one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Just the right amount of ingredients, on a fresh piece of ciabatta. Perfection. As Harvey would say – “It’s not bragging if it’s true”.
Now for the holy grail of Bacon on Bree. Never could we have imagined this, but lo and behold, a Bowl of Bacon…
Whoever thought of this should be promoted if you ask me. Fatty, crispy, oily, you name it, they make it.
I do have to add that the only thing that saddened me about Bacon on Bree was their attentiveness towards the customer. That and their barstools. Phew, if you are short you can expect some pins and needles somewhere in your body.
But I can guarantee you that I would take pins and needles any day for some of their serious delicious bacon.
Bacon on Bree gets Triple T’s stamp of approval.
